Description

Exceptional vintage glossy 12 x 9.5 photo of Montgomery standing and saluting from inside his Humber Staff ‘Victory’ Car, signed in the lower left in fountain pen, “Montgomery of Alamein.” In fine condition, with moderate signature contrast against the brick roadway. The pictured Humber Staff Car was originally supplied directly to the Ministry of Supply and was used by Field Marshal Lord Montgomery of Alamein as his staff car from the Normandy D-Day landings up until the end of WW2. Known as 'The Victory Car,' the vehicle covered 60,000 miles in under 12 months. It was returned to the War Office from Germany on July 26, 1947, in order that it should take its place alongside the Field Marshal's other car ‘Old Faithful’ as a tribute to the service given by Humber cars on all fronts.
