Handwritten letter expressing admiration for a mentor, perhaps one of his teachers or even Emperor Napoleon III, who supported his research. In part (translated): "I am very sensitive to your gracious message and I am delighted to have given you the opportunity to think again to the good man whose memory is so dear to you and to whom I have since a long time devoted infinite gratitude." In fine condition, with one small stain touching one word of text.
