Description

ALS signed “Dad,” five pages, 8 x 10.25, July 20, no year. Addressed from “Camp,” a lengthy handwritten letter to his son, Romer, addressing several topics, in part: “Fred...dropped in to see me yesterday. He said there was a terrible situation in Frisco. Could hardly get away. Communists behind the labor strikers, and a real revolution imminent. I should think America would deal summarily with that element. The new governor sure called them back. When you come up...perhaps by then the racket will be squashed.” In a section he marks “Most Important,” Grey writes, “I want you to impress upon mother a few things. In case of a smash, which judging from these letters is unavoidable, save my tackle, guns, books, films, and personal effects, especially my private things. This is exceedingly important and, I look to you, Romer, to make her see it, and be ready to save these things before it’s too late. I can stand the loss of all the rest of my property, except my boats...in Tahiti. There will be no danger of this if my checks are honored there.” In fine condition.
