Amazing collection of wardrobe documents from the collection of PRN lead wardrobe designer Elizabeth Dorr Sidla, which is highlighted by her preliminary hand-drawn outfit designs for the Sign o' the Times tour and related photo shoots. The collection contains over a dozen hand-drawn outfit designs for Sheila E., Cat Glover, Greg Brooks, Wally Safford, Eric Leeds, Matt Blistan, Matt Fink, Levi Seacer, Jr., and Bonnie, each accomplished in graphite and ink on off-white sheets ranging in size from 8.5 x 11 to 18 x 12, with several bearing affixed fabric samples or magazine reference clippings. Several hand-annotated design copies and reference pages are also included, as is a three-page packet with hand-drawn outfit designs for “Madhouse,” listing musicians as “Dale,” “Levi,” “Eric,” and “Matt F.,” with the last page featuring 14 stapled fabric swatches of black, gray, and white.
The collection also includes:
A 3-page stapled wardrobe list for Prince and 10 of his band members, which includes “Sheila,” “Matt F.,” “Miko,” “Levi,” “Bonnie,” “Eric,” “Matt B.,” “Wally,” “Brooks,” and “Cat.” All three pages are annotated in pencil and ink and feature 10 fabric swatches, individually taped to the left of each musician.
An extensive 30-page work report from the PRN costume shop, dated from June 1986 to March 1987, containing updates and to-do lists for the various outfits to be worn by Prince and his band, which includes machines used, labor and material costs, and the diverse assortment of fabrics and clothing articles to be created for the band’s upcoming tour and music videos; a set list with a revision date of February 23, 1987, is included with this assemblage.
Two PRN Productions sheets, both one page, 8.5 x 11, hand-annotated as “Cat Wardrobe” and “Brooks & Wally.” The former notes Cat’s eight outfits for a live show, listing songs like “Sign thru Ballad,” “Girls & Boys,” “Hot Thing,” and “Beautiful Night.”
