Six unique original hand-painted production cels from Prince's "MPLS" animated music video, all accomplished on 10.5 x 12.5 celluloid sheets, highlighted by three of Prince in his cartoon form. Subjects are: Prince dressed in a yellow cape, playing an iconic blue guitar; a trio of Prince portraits with him in a cap and golden mask, shown at three slightly different angles; a full-length image of Prince in a tight 'Love Symbol' super hero suit; one of the video's characters in an electrocuted, skeletonized form; a pair of small white dogs with spiraled and bloodshot eyes; and a bright yellow fish taxi. The cel set is housed in a folder from Philippine Animation Studio, Inc. In overall fine condition, with creasing to the folder.
"MPLS" was the first video related to Prince to be treated as a cartoon, released for broadcast but receiving only minimal airplay. The associated single received only a limited release through the 1-800-NEW-FUNK telephone service and The New Power Generation stores in Minneapolis and London. In addition to the cartoon scenes, the video features live-action clips from Prince's 'The Beautiful Experience' TV-special and Lenny Kravitz’s 'Are You Gonna Go My Way' music video. Highly desirable, extremely rare original artwork from a unique Prince project.
