Description

Historic official press release of John F. Kennedy's presidential nomination acceptance speech, "The New Frontier," given at the DNC in Los Angeles on July 15, 1960, eight pages, 8.5 x 14, July 15, 1960. A historic address by John F. Kennedy, headed: "Remarks of Senator John F. Kennedy Accepting the Democratic Presidential Nomination, Democratic National Convention, July 15, 1960." In the speech, Kennedy outlines the party's platform—focusing on "the civil and economic rights essential to the dignity of all men"—recognizes the risk that the party has taken in nominating a Catholic, and offers his commentary on international affairs and the technological revolution at home. In small part: "I tell you the New Frontier is here, whether we seek it or not. Beyond that frontier are uncharted areas of science and space, unsolved problems of peace and war, unconquered pockets of ignorance and prejudice, unanswered questions of poverty and surplus. It would be easier to shrink back from that frontier, to look to the safe mediocrity of the past, to be lulled by good intentions and high rhetoric—and those who prefer that course should not cast their votes for me, regardless of party. But I believe the times demand invention, innovation, imagination, decision. I am asking each of you to be new pioneers on that New Frontier." In fine condition, with light handling wear.

Provenance: John F. Kennedy: The Robert L. White Collection, Lot 653, Guernsey's, December 2005.
