Description

Lombardi corrects a sports editor on the 1960 NFL MVP: "I believe Van Brocklin was voted this honor"

TLS signed “Vince,” one page, 8.5 x 11, illustrated Green Bay Packers letterhead, July 14, 1961. Letter to Tim Cohane, the Sports Editor of Look Magazine, in full: “In my opinion, the draft of the story is excellent. One point needs further checking. I refer to the second paragraph on page 8, stating Hornung was voted the most valuable player in the N.F.L. I believe Van Brocklin was voted this honor. Looking forward to seeing you at the Bear game. Bring all of your lucky charms.” In fine condition, with a very short to the right edge.

Lombardi was correct in his suggestion: the 1960 MVP award was given to Norm Van Brocklin, the quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, in his final season. Coincidentally, the 1961 MVP award was given to Paul Hornung, running back for the Green Bay Packers, who was awarded the honor on December 21, 1961.
