King of Great Britain and Ireland (1765-1837) from 1830 to 1837, he earned the sobriquet 'Sailor King' for his youthful service in the Royal Navy. Partly-printed DS, signed “William R.,” one page, 13.5 x 9.25, January 3, 1833. The king appoints Francis William Blake McLeod as a “Lieutenant in Our Ninety First...Regiment of Foot.” Signed prominently in the upper left corner by King William IV, and countersigned in the lower right corner by William Lamb, 2nd Viscount Melbourne. The left side retains the original paper seals. In fine condition, with light creasing and soiling.
