Description

President Grant approves the retention of a New York tax collector

LS as president, one page, 8.25 x 13.5, September 25, 1875. Addressed from the Executive Mansion, an official letter to Francis S. Rew, in part: "By virtue of the authority vested in me by Section 3142 Revised Statutes of the United States, approved June 22, 1874, you are hereby retained as Collector of Internal Revenue for the District formed by annexing the Twenty-fifth and Twenty-eighth Collection Districts of the State of New York, to be known as the Twenty-eighth Collection District of the State of New York." Neatly signed at the conclusion by President Grant, and countersigned by the Acting Secretary of the Treasury. In fine condition, with some light creasing.
