Two items: a TLS signed “M. Scott Carpenter,” one page, 8 x 10, early NASA letterhead, January 5, 1962, in full: “Everyone has big photographs around here. I am sending you mine. If you had a smaller one in mind, let me know; I will try and find it”; and the referenced photograph, an official glossy 8 x 10 NASA photo numbered G-60-2737, depicting Carpenter in a formal up-close pose, signed in black ink, “M. Scott Carpenter, Mercury Astronaut.” In overall very good to fine condition, with light rippling to the photo. Roughly five months later, Carpenter became the sixth human to fly in space when he piloted his Aurora 7 spacecraft during the Mercury-Atlas 7 mission on May 24, 1962.
