Mitchell, in full: “I went into acting as a lark and found that it was an exhausting slave-driven crazy profession. Between performances, rehearsals, conferences, interviews, I was at my wits end and didn’t even get to the telephone to thank you for your kind invitation and tell you of my regret at not being able to come and see you. (Saturday nights there is a de rigueur party given by the apprentices for the visiting players and I had to go to that). Please forgive my thoughtfulness and allow me to make my apologies all over again some day in Springfield.” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original hand-addressed mailing envelope.
