Description

Signer of the Declaration of Independence from New Jersey (1737-1791) who is also known as the designer of the first official American flag. Colonial Pennsylvania engraved bank note for "Fifteen Shillings," signed “Fra’s Hopkinson,” 3 x 3.5, issued as No. 2701, and reading: “This Indented Bill of Fifteen Shillings, shall entitle the Bearer to receive of the Provincial Treasurer, the like Sum of Fifteen Shillings, of equal Value with the same Sum, of the Bills of Credit now by law current, according to the Directions of an Act of General Assembly of Pennsylvania, made in the 11th Year of the Reign of his Majesty Geo. III. Dated March 20, 1771.” Signed at the conclusion by Francis Hopkinson, and countersigned by William Fisher. Printed by David Hall and William Sellers, with reverse bearing the cautionary message: "To Counterfeit is Death." In fine condition, with soiling and light handling wear.
