Beautiful vintage ballpoint signatures — “Brian Jones,” “Keith Richard,” “Mick Jagger,” “Bill Wyman,” and “The Rolling Stones, Love, Charlie Boy” — on an off-white 8 x 10 sheet of Maxim’s letterhead, which was a popular dance hall located on Fountain Street in Belfast, Ireland; the upper left-hand corner of the letterhead bears a foil crest and the phrase ‘Jamais arrière,’ a Gaelic battle-cry which translates to ‘Never behind.’ In fine condition, with two mailing folds. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks.
The consignor notes that the autographs were obtained on July 31, 1964, during the Rolling Stones’ first visit to Ireland, following the band's legendary performance at Ulster Hall in Belfast. The band only managed to play for 12 minutes before the show was called off due to rioting caused by hysterical fans. Due to overcrowding, and even before the band walked on, girls were fainting and had to be passed onto the stage for recovery, with some being placed on stretchers. Following the shortened show, the band members retired around the corner to the popular dance hall Maxim’s, where this letterhead was signed in full. Signed letterhead by all original members of the Rolling Stones is quite rare, with this being an outstanding example and the first that we have encountered in several years.
