Description

One of the final checks Lennon signed as a member of the Beatles

Scarce 'Apple Corps Limited' business check (District Bank Limited, London), 8 x 4, filled out in another hand and signed in bold black felt tip by John Lennon, payable to Apple Corps Ltd. Payroll for £8884.62, January 8, 1970. In fine condition. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks.

On the day John Lennon signed this check, producer Glyn Johns was in Olympic Studios, London, remixing the Beatles song ‘Let It Be’ for release as a single. Fittingly, it would become the Beatles' final single before Paul McCartney announced his departure from the band on April 10, 1970. The album, Let It Be, was released just weeks later, on May 8, 1970, and the Beatles would officially break up not long after the release of the album and its associated movie. Any checks signed by Lennon are extremely rare and this is an extraordinary example penned in the final days of the Beatles' historic run. This is undoubtedly one of the last checks Lennon signed while still an active member of the Beatles.
