American politician (1814-1869) who served as secretary of war in the cabinets of Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson. ALS, one page, 7.75 x 9.75, War Department letterhead, October 14, 1865. Handwritten letter to Edward Minton, in part: "This morning I had a good opportunity of speaking to the President respecting Mr. Blunt. I found that the matter had already received his attention and that Mr. Blunt stood well before him although he did not indicate what his ultimate judgment might be." In fine condition.
