French composer of the late Romantic period (1848-1933) who is best known for his 17 melodies (‘art songs’), with texts by poets such as Baudelaire, Gautier, Leconte de Lisle, and Goethe. ALS in French, signed “H. Fouques Duparc,” one page both sides, 8 x 10, October 5, 1926. Handwritten letter to a gentleman, explaining that he has had to prolong his stay in Lourdes and making a comment on "the national defense" and state obligations; he offers to sign paperwork immediately if necessary, but otherwise hopes it can wait. In fine condition.
