Swedish film director, screenwriter, and actor (1879-1960) who began his career in Sweden before moving to Hollywood in 1924. Sweden's most prominent director in the ‘Golden Age of Silent Film’ in Europe, Sjostrom is perhaps best known for his influential 1921 fantasy film The Phantom Carriage. Uncommon ALS signed with his American name, “Victor Seastrom,” one page both sides, 8.5 x 11, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios letterhead, April 26, 1926. Handwritten letter to F. Jurden Doxtater, in full: “I make my apologies to you for not having answered your letter before, but my work has kept me so busy. I am sorry I cannot consider any story at present because I am leaving for Sweden when I have finished the picture I am now working on. However if you wish to see me anyway, you could call me on the phone at the studio some morning around 10 o’clock and we could make an appointment. But I am sorry I must tell you in advance that there is no possibility of any result at present.” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original hand-addressed mailing envelope.
