ALS signed “C. L. Dodgson,” one page both sides, 4.5 x 7, January 5, 1874. Handwritten letter to "Jebb," in full: "Don't think me ungrateful—I was delaying writing till I knew something about my plans. Would it suit you to take me in for 2 or 3 days about the 17th? I should much like to see you all again—though I can't help fearing that at last Edith has ceased to be a child, & that I shall find her with her hair done up 'a la grown-up'—Is it so? It will be a great shock to my feelings! But if it is so, I cannot hear it—I used to have a paper of your children's ages & birth days, but have lost it. Could you tell me them again? I have lost count & can't make out Edith's age. Haste—kindest regards to Mrs. Jebb—Love to any daughters not too old." In fine condition.
Dodgson has always been well-known for his love of children, hosting parties and picnics for them at his cottage. Though many believe that the writer's obsession with young girls was innocent, common and perfectly acceptable during his time, it remains a dubious subject. An intriguing and controversial letter by the Alice's Adventures in Wonderland author.
