Description

Rare original German-language commemorative album for the 1958 FIFA World Cup, 32 pages, 8.25 x 11.75, issued by WS-Verlag in Germany after the end of the World Cup, which was held in Sweden from June 8-29, 1958. The album places a focus on the German national team, offers a detailed rundown of the tournament’s schedule and results, and contains a total of 96 black-and-white affixed photo cards depicting players from the German squad, as well as various scenes and moments from tournament games. Most significantly, three of the cards feature images of the young Brazilian superstar Pele, then just 17-years-old, who helped his national team to their first-ever World Cup championship with a pair of goals in the final match. It’s safe to assume that these are the first cards issued in Germany that depict Pele in card format. In fine condition.

The 1958 World Cup final is best remembered for Brazil’s first FIFA title and for the emergence of the young Brazilian superstar Pele, a 17-year-old football prodigy whose two goals helped Brazil secure their historic victory. Pele's performance in the 1958 World Cup final not only showcased his incredible technical skills and composure in front of goal but also marked the beginning of his legendary career. This victory played a significant role in cementing Pele's status as one of the greatest footballers of all time.
