World War II-era DS, one page, 7.5 x 10.5, no date. An impressive “Certificate of Merit” issued by The Supreme Commander Allied Expeditionary Force to “Alexander R. Thom, Captain Canadian Army, Public Relations Division, In Recognition of Conspicuously Meritorious and Outstanding Performance of Duty.” A typed caption below reads: “Captain Thom, while serving as Film Analyst, Film Analysis Subsection from May 1944 to May 1945, assisted in establishing this operation and published catalogues and film analysis reports which received the highest praise from all concerned with their use.” Signed nicely at the conclusion in fountain pen by Dwight S. Eisenhower. Archivally double-matted and framed a glossy portrait photo of the general to an overall size of 23.5 x 17.5. In very fine condition. General Eisenhower served as the Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force during World War II from December 20, 1943, until the end of the war in Europe in May 1945. His role in this position was crucial in planning and executing the Allied invasion of Normandy (D-Day) on June 6, 1944, which played a significant role in the eventual defeat of Nazi Germany.
