Description

Circa 1966-67 glossy 7.25 x 8.75 photo of Salvador Dali seated in the New York City restaurant L'Etoile and holding up a photograph of Kathy Bradford, with Dali starting to add an inscription on the front in blue ballpoint, "Podell, bon jour, Luimaum,” and, annoyed by the ink’s lack of adhesion to the glossy finish, appears to scribble roughly to the right side before finishing on the reverse, “Luimaumiamoiresine, Dali.” The reverse bears a Solange Podell credit stamp and her handwritten copyright; Podell also added her initials to the front of the photo twice: in the lower right corner and to the photo held by Dali. In very good to fine condition, with Dali’s scribble cutting through the photo, and surface impressions on the photo side from his writing on the back.

Solange Podell (1927-2020) was a cabaret dancer, actress, and photographer. After learning from Richard Avedon and graduating from the Famous Photographer's School, she settled in Monaco and was appointed the official photographer of the Principality Tourism Office. Over 5,000 of Solange's photos are now archived at the Palais Princier for their aesthetic quality and historical value.
