Distinguished and prolific French composer (1892-1974) best known for his pioneering incorporation of jazz elements and polytonality in such repertoire staples as 'Le boeuf sur le toit' and 'La création du monde.' Autograph manuscript in the hand of Darius Milhaud, who pens several musical quotations by esteemed French composer and pianist Erik Satie, four pages on two adjoining sheets of staff paper. The manuscript appears to contain six of Satie’s works, which Milhaud has entitled and, in four instances, dated: “Fete donnee par des Chevaliers Normands en l'honneur d'une jeune demoiselle,” “Modere, 20 Janvier 91,” “Lent, 22 janvier 91,” “Eginhard Prelude,” “Allegro, Honfleur le 9 Sept 1884,” and, for a second time, “Modere, 17 Juillet de 93”; a composition dated January 20, 1891, having only Modere (Moderato) marked on the score, is generally known as Premiere pensee Rose + Croix, after its first publication in 1968. The manuscript also bears numerous amendments in pencil. In fine condition, with slightly irregular light edge toning.
