Description

Superb color 16.5 x 37.5 lithograph of David Hockney's artwork for the New York Metropolitan Opera's production of an Igor Stravinsky triple bill of The Rite of Spring, The Nightingale, and Oedipus Rex, which featured sets and costumes designed by Hockney, who has signed in the lower border in black felt tip. Framed to a slightly larger size and in fine condition.

Hockney on his designs for the 1981 New York Metropolitan Opera's Stravinsky production: 'What I liked about the program of The Rite of Spring, The Nightingale, and Oedipus Rex at the Metropolitan Opera was how you went from Stravinsky's most kinetic to his most static work for the stage — seemingly from birth and awareness to self-knowledge and death. We conceived it as one total piece of theater.'
