Pioneering Australian aviator (1892-1933) known as the 'Australian Lone Eagle.' In 1928 he became the first person to fly solo from England to Australia and the first person to fly solo across the Southern Atlantic Ocean. In 1931, he flew a de Havilland Puss Moth from Canada to New York then non-stop to Jamaica (1,500 miles) then to Venezuela, Guyana, Brazil and across the South Atlantic to Africa. He was killed at the age of 40 in 1933 when trying to break the speed record from England to Australia and crashed into the hills in Tuscany. Scarce vintage fountain pen signature, "Sincerely yours, B. Hinkler,” on an off-white 3.25 x 1.5 slip affixed to a pink album page. In fine condition, with an unobtrusive central vertical fold.
