Revolutionary War-dated partly-printed DS, one page, 11.5 x 18.75, September 20, 1781. As governor of Massachusetts, Hancock appoints John Bliss of Wilbraham "to be one of the Justices to keep the Peace in the County of Hampshire for the term of seven years, if he shall during that time behave well in the same Office." Boldly signed at the conclusion by Governor John Hancock and countersigned by Secretary John Avery, Jr. The white paper seal affixed to the upper left corner remains intact. Mounted and framed to an overall size of 16 x 23. In very good to fine condition, with scattered staining, in no way affecting the impressive signature, and an old description affixed at the head.
