Californian pioneer (1803-1880) known for his association with the Gold Rush as the owner of Sutter's Mill, where gold was first discovered by James W. Marshall. Lititz Deposit Bank check, 7.5 x 2.75, filled out and signed by Sutter, "J. A. Sutter," payable to "Myself" for $100, November 29, 1873. Also signed by Sutter on the affixed two-cent revenue stamp, "J. A. Sutter." In fine condition, with a cancellation-related tear to the center, not at all affecting the signature. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from JSA.
