ALS signed “O. W. Holmes,” one page, 4.5 x 7, December 15, 1862. Handwritten letter to "James," in part: "I do not know but I am too late…If so, you will of course reject my poor two dollars (herewith humbly tendered) but I hope forgive me for any intrusion. If you want my name to dilute your columns of respectable and responsible citizens, I place it at your disposal." The letter is affixed inside a first edition of The School-Boy, published in Boston by Houghton, Osgood and Company in 1879. Autographic condition: fine. Book condition: G+/None, with partial splitting to joints, wear to spine ends, and bumped corners.
