Exquisite vintage matte-finish 5.5 x 6.5 photo of aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart seated in the cockpit of a plane, her aviator goggles resting on her brow, the fingers of her left hand fiddling with a beaded necklace, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, "To Joseph Estabrook, in memory of a 'book' party — much enjoyed. Amelia Earhart, November 18, '28.” Matted to an overall size of 7.5 x 9.25. In fine condition. Encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder with an autograph grade of “7.” Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA. Given Earhart’s inscribed date of 1928, the ‘book party’ very likely refers to her first published work, 20 Hrs., 40 Min., a memoir about her childhood and her experiences as a passenger in the Fokker F.VIIB-3m Friendship, which, in June 1928, made her the first woman to cross the Atlantic Ocean by air; she conquered the same feat — this time solo — four years later in her Lockheed Vega 5B. A superb portrait of the famed aviatrix, whose stoic visage likewise surrenders a sense of preflight anxiety.
