Marvelous vintage wartime matte-finish 6 x 7.75 photo of Princess Elizabeth in her Sea Rangers uniform, affixed to its original 7.25 x 9.5 mount, signed on the mount in bold fountain pen, "Elizabeth, 1945." Reverse bears the affixed label of Royal Court photographer Dorothy Wilding. In fine condition, with a touch of light foxing at the top.
The 16-year-old Princess Elizabeth enrolled as a Sea Ranger on February 26, 1943, during World War II, to contribute to the domestic war effort. She was made a Sea Ranger Commodore in 1945, and would go on to train as a driver and mechanic and was awarded the rank of honorary junior commander in the Auxiliary Territorial Service ("A.T.S."), the women's branch of the British Army.
