ALS signed “H. Clay,” one page, 8 x 10, September 23, 1840. Handwritten letter replying to an invitation, in part: "I have received the invitation to the meeting called by the Tippecanoe Club of Grave Creek…which you did me the honor to transmit and offer my respectful acknowledgements for it. I should be most happy to attend it, but indispensable engagements will not allow me that satisfaction." In very good to fine condition, with light soiling, tiny holes along the top fold, and old tape along the left edge.
