Vintage ballpoint Beatles signatures, “George Harrison,” “To Carole, love, Paul McCartney, xxx,” “Ringo Starr, xxx, Drums,” and “Love to Carole, from John Lennon, xx,” on a light green 5 x 4.5 sheet. The consignor notes that the autographs were obtained at Irby Village Hall in Heswall, Wirral, England on September 7, 1962, less than one month after Ringo Starr had joined the Beatles. In very good to fine condition, with a stain at the top, unobtrusive intersecting folds, and light show-through from unrelated signatures on the back.
Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks and by a letter of provenance from the original owner: “My family and I grew up in Irby Village and I attended the Mary Newton Dance School. My mum had agreed to help Mary Newton set up the hall for The Beatles playing there; at the time we had no idea who they were. I went along after school, as my mum was there helping. I was only 13 or 14 at the time. I sat on the side of the stage and watched the Beatles play. I forget which songs they played but I do recall the Beatles complaining that there were only soft drinks and no alcohol. We got to speak with all of the Beatles and the DJ for the event, Derek Jeffries. John Lennon had just picked up a new kitten that day and he brought it on a holdall. He even let me have a hold of it. The autographs were all signed with me present.”
