Exceptional oversized vintage matte-finish 11 x 13.75 portrait photo of Bela Lugosi by the Apeda Studio of New York, signed and inscribed in fountain pen to radio reporter Fred Johnson, "To Fred Johnson, a pal for an afternoon and a friend for ever. Bela Lugosi," who adds below, "San Francisco in August 1928.” In fine condition, with a small tear to the upper left corner, and a light stain to the left edge of the background. Lugosi was in the midst of performing Dracula in San Francisco to rave reviews, where the Columbia Theatre maintained a nurse on their staff to deal with approximately a dozen fainting spells by audience members per night.
