Rare vintage matte-finish 11 x 14 soft-focus portrait of a brooding Wellman, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, "To Miss Charles: — A most competent young lady — may your prayers be answered, William A. Wellman." Blindstamped in the lower right by photographer Eugene Robert Richee, with the reverse bearing a J. Philip Allen ownership stamp. Tape-repaired tears to top and right edges, slight wear and tack holes to edges, and trivial soiling and surface impressions, otherwise fine condition.
