Hand-addressed and signed mailing envelope panel, 5 x 2.75, neatly addressed by Dickens in blue ink to "Octavian Blewitt Esquire, Literary Fund, Great Russell Street," and nicely signed in the lower left, "Charles Dickens." In fine condition, with some light soiling. Octavian Blewitt was an English writer and long-time secretary of the Royal Literary Fund, which assisted British writers who found themselves in financial difficulties. Much of the charity's money came from an annual fund-raising dinner at which major public and literary figures (including William Gladstone, Lord Palmerston, Charles Dickens, Thackeray, Robert Browning, J. M. Barrie, and Rudyard Kipling) exhorted guests to make generous donations.
