Description

Great collection of six first edition books by Mark Twain, published in the United States between 1872 and 1894. Includes:

- Roughing It, published in Hartford, CT, by the American Publishing Company in 1872, hardcover bound in original publisher's brown decorative cloth with gilt decoration, spine lettered in gilt. First state with double frontis, perfect "My" on first line of p. 19; "death!" on p. 123; a capital "T" for "Trees" and "thirteenth" instead of "sixteenth" on p. 156; the words "he" and "his" present on lines 20-21 of p. 242; and "Eastern" on p. 330. Condition: G-/None, with heavy edgewear, cracked front joint, spine cloth split along front, and some fraying at spine head.

- Punch, Brothers, Punch! and Other Sketches, published in New York by Slote, Woodman & Co. in 1878, softcover bound in publisher's printed wrappers with tape-repaired spine. Condition: G/None, with repaired spine, chipping to edges, and creasing to wrappers.

- The Stolen White Elephant, published in Boston, MA, by James R. Osgood and Company in 1882, hardcover bound in original publisher's brown decorative cloth with author's name lettered in gilt. Condition: G+/None, with edgewear, bumped corners, and heavier wear to spine.

- Life on the Mississippi, published in Boston, MA, by James R. Osgood and Company in 1883, hardcover bound in original publisher's brown decorative cloth with gilt decoration, spine lettered in gilt. Mixed state, with uncorrected 'Twain in Flames' (p. 441) but correction of "St. Louis Hotel" to "St. Charles Hotel" (p. 443). Condition: VG/None.

- The American Claimant, published in New York by Charles L. Webster & Co. in 1892, hardcover bound original publisher's green decorative cloth, lettered in gilt, with black stamped decoration. Condition: VG/None, with bumped corners.

- Pudd'nhead Wilson, published in Hartford, CT, by the American Publishing Company in 1894, hardcover bound in original publisher's rust decorative cloth, lettered in gilt, with frontispiece featuring Twain's facsimile autograph. Condition: G+/None, with moderate edgewear and scuffing to boards.
