Metal fragment removed from the Complex 26 gantry for the launch of the Explorer I satellite, .75 x .5, affixed to an off-white 6.25 x 3.5 presentation card, signed along the top in black ink, “James A. Van Allen, 2/93.” In fine condition. Explorer 1 was the first satellite launched by the United States in 1958. It discovered the Van Allen Radiation Belt.
