ALS signed “O. W. Holmes,” one page, 4.5 x 5.75, July 1, 1877. Handwritten letter to Mr. Deane, in part: “There is a Greek quotation in my proof which ought to be printed in Greek letters thus.” Holmes adds the Greek characters and continues below: “in one straight line as in the original Iliad XIX, 302. Merry-Mount is the spelling in Motley’s novel.” Holmes adds more vertically along the left side: “As I suppose I shall not see the proofs again perhaps you will kindly take the trouble to look them over.” In fine condition.
