French general and politician (1754-1812) known for his opposition to Napoleon Bonaparte, executed by firing squad six days after staging a failed republican coup d'état. Scarce ALS in French, signed “Malet,” one page both sides, 7.25 x 9.5, August 24, 1794. Untranslated handwritten letter on military matters during the operations on the Moselle, addressed on the integral leaf by Malet to Gen. Lauriat, commander of the citadel at Strasbourg. In very good to fine condition, with scattered staining and some seal-related loss to the address leaf.
