ALS in French, one page both sides, 4.5 x 7, personal letterhead, November 14, 1878. Handwritten letter to composer Jules Massenet, addressing him as "Maitre [Master]," in part (translated): "How good and kind you are. You are the personification of a great artist that is above all the petty jealousies that are unfortunately found all too often in our profession. I would arrive tomorrow night in Paris for the rehearsal of Saturday in the conservatory where I expect to find you and express personally all my gratitude." In fine condition.
