Description

French educator and historian (1863-1937) who is best remembered as being the founder of the International Olympic Committee, and its second President. He is known as the father of the modern Olympic Games. Uncommon ALS in French, one page both sides, 4.5 x 7, March 23, 1902. Handwritten letter to "Mr. Vignaud," evidently concerning the disposition of an Olympic medal. In full (translated): "The new president of the Johns Hopkins University has written me almost at the same time as you did and I answered him directly that he should claim the medal.
