Scarce silk mourning ribbon for the Marquis de Lafayette, 2.75 x 6.5, featuring a central medallion with Lafayette in profile surrounded by tied curtains with upper and lower text: “Lafayette, Died, May 21st 1834, Aged 70 yrs.” This particular ribbon lists the apparent wrong date of the Marquis’ death; the consensus is that he died the day before on May 20th. In very good to fine condition, with folds and creases.
