Rare 'mother flame' safety lamp from the Mexico City 1968 Summer Olympics, 13.5″ in height and 4.75″ in diameter, manufactured by the Honda Electronic Co. Ltd., engraved around the bottom ring: "Series No. 27, 'Sacred Fire Lamp,' Made in Japan." The modified miner's lamp is housed in an acrylic dome, emblazoned with golden Olympic rings and "Mexico 1968." The lamp is suspended from a braided black leather handle. The design is a modified miner’s lamp, which enables the Olympic flame to be protected and safely transported by aircraft.
