(Walt Disney Studios, 1950) Original concept painting by Mary Blair for Cinderella, showing the film's main antagonist, Lady Tremaine—Cinderella's wicked stepmother—relaxing in her bedroom with Lucifer the cat. The detailed artwork portrays an ornate room with purple walls, filled with luxurious furniture and decor, including a massive gilt-framed mirror, fabric-draped bed, gaudy high-backed chairs, and a golden chandelier. Accomplished in tempera on 11 x 10 artist's board. In fine condition, with tack holes to borders. A bright, colorful, and meticulously conceived work from a Disney master.
Mary Blair was a concept artist for Disney during the 1940s and early 1950s, working on designs for such films as Peter Pan, Cinderella, and Alice in Wonderland. She also created designs for several Disney attractions (including It's a Small World), and her largest work ever, the multi-story mosaic in Disney World's Contemporary Hotel concourse.
