Partly-printed DS, signed “Frank Lloyd Wright Architect,” one page, 5.5 x 8.5, no date. Application for information to be published in a directory, headed: "Business or Professional Record." In the upper portion, which asks for "data to enable the editor to do complete justice to your business or professional record," Wright has written, in full: "Work characterized as 'New School of Middle West' in America—Abroad, as the architecture of the 'Prairie Dimension'—the only truly American expression in the art of Architecture. Many foreign publications of distinction publish the work and European architects manifest increasing interest in it." Wright has also written "None" twice in columns asking for information on being an officer or director of a corporation and the office or position occupied. At the bottom of the form is a line that asks for a business card; beneath it, Wright has written: "(Never had one!)." In fine condition, with complete light backing for reinforcement.
Wright was the American architect, chief theorist and practitioner of the 'Prairie School' of architecture. The style was typified by houses with low-pitched roofs and extended lines that blended into the landscape. It epitomized Wright's idea of 'organic architecture,' which 'proceeds, persists, creates, according to the nature of man and his circumstances as they both change.' The creator of about 1,000 structures is also noted for his innovative designs for the Imperial Hotel (Tokyo) and the Guggenheim Museum (New York City).
