Portuguese neurologist (1874-1955) who received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1949; regarded as one of the founders of modern psychosurgery, having developed the surgical procedure leucotomy, which is more widely known as lobotomy. Two items: an off-white 6 x 4.5 sheet annotated in black ink by Antonio Egas Moniz, who has added the name, title, and address of a professor of “Historia de Medicina” in Rio de Janeiro; and a mailing envelope with original wax seal, 4.5 x 4.5, annotated in the hand of Moniz, who has incorporated his signature in the return address field, “Egas Moniz.” Both items are affixed to the reverse of a 6.25 x 9 title page for a Moniz bibliography entitled ‘Ultima Licao’ or ‘Last Lesson.’ In very good condition, with scattered light foxing, and heavy staining from mounting adhesive.
