Incredible oversized 37 x 36 MCA Records promo poster advertising the release of Lynyrd Skynyrd's 1977 album Street Survivors, with large block letters reading, "This Space Reserved for Lynyrd Skynyrd, 'Street Survivors,' Coming Soon," signed in ballpoint by Ronnie Van Zant ("Best Wishes, Ronnie Van Zant"), Allen Collins, Steve Gaines, Gary Rossington, Billy Powell, Leon Wilkeson, and Artimus Pyle ("Artimus, Drums"). Professionally mounted on foamcore and in very good condition, with flattened intersecting folds and the signatures quite heavily faded, but still completely legible.
Accompanied by a provenance statement from the original recipient, in part: "On October 17, 1977, Lynyrd Skynyrd appeared at an autograph signing at the Altamonte Mall, just outside of Orlando, Florida, to promote their newly released 'Street Survivors' album. The band was sitting at a table under a tent and the poster was hanging on the back of the tent. Attached is a picture with Allen Collins from that day with the poster hanging on the wall behind him. A second photo of band members and fans shows the poster hanging as well. I went with friends to the event and asked one of the security guards if I could have the poster. He said yes so I took it from the back of the tent. Later, I was standing near the end of the table, a few feet from Ronnie Van Zant and he looked at me and motioned me to come over and he signed the poster. I got all the other band members to sign it also. The signatures include Ronnie Van Zant, Allen Collins, Steve Gaines, Gary Rossington, Billy Powell, Leon Wilkeson, and Artimus Pyle (who signed it 'Artimus Drums'). The band played in Lakeland Florida the next day, then one more show in Greenville South Carolina, then the plane crash."
The signing at the Altamonte Springs Mall took place on the Street Survivors release day, October 17, 1977, just three days before Lynyrd Skynyrd’s ill-fated flight bound for Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The resulting crash took the lives of Ronnie Van Zant, Steve and Cassie Gaines, assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick, and pilots Walter McCreary and William Gray. A remarkable oversized piece, fully signed by the band just before the tragic accident.
