Description

Prince prepares for his Diamonds and Pearls Tour, with Carmen Electra as his opening act

Typed memo by Jill Willis to Prince, one page, 8.5 x 11, Paisley Park Enterprises letterhead, February 7, 1992, annotated in black felt tip by Prince with his brief responses to a series of questions and requests. After deciding the name for his tour of Japan, Australia, and Europe— "Prince & the N.P.G. Live"—he answers three questions pertaining the Paisley Park's up-and-coming artist, Carmen Electra. Asked which of her singles deserves a music video, Prince writes, "Go Go Dancer is my choice." He then asks Willis to curate photos from a recent promo shoot with Carmen, "U go thru then I'll approve." Lastly, he indicates the countries where she will open for him during his tour: "U.K., Holland." In fine condition.

Accompanied by a brand-new shrinkwrapped maxi-single 12″ vinyl pressing of Carmen Electra's single 'Everybody Get On Up,' produced by Paisley Park. The record features four versions of 'Everybody Get On Up'—the '12″ Up Mix,' 'Stiff Dub,' 'Jeep Mix,' and 'Wet 'N' Juicy Dub'—plus 'Go Go Dancer (Radio Edit)'. In fine condition, with a couple creases to the lower left corner.

In 1991, Carmen Electra moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she met singer and songwriter Prince and was signed to a recording contract at Paisley Park Records. When Prince and the New Power Generation went on his Diamonds and Pearls Tour in Europe, Electra was his opening act for part of the tour. Her self-titled debut studio album was released in 1993.

Prince's former co-manager Jill Willis recalls: "Prince really believed in Carmen and thought she would be a star (which she did come to be). It was fun working on Carmen's project although we never know what new artist or sound will connect. She was always pleasant, kind and quick to smile during the years I worked with her. And she was a very hard worker!"
