Spindle created by John S. Reigart from wood taken from the Paul Revere house renovation, measuring approximately 3.25″ tall and 1″ in diameter. A small cardstock tag, once attached by a wire, is annotated: "Paul Revere House." In very good to fine condition, with the corner of the tag torn.
John S. Reigart was born in 1833 or 1834 in New York City where he resided for most of his life. By occupation, he was a bank clerk with very precise penmanship which is evident on his identification card. During the mid and late 19th century Reigart assembled a comprehensive collection of relics from every period of America's history. He was clearly aware of the importance of provenance of all the pieces in his collection and included detailed documentation in the form of period ink script notes, most of which he attached to the actual artifacts.
