Description

Scarce official French-language daily program from the Paris 1924 Summer Olympics for swimming and water polo events on Saturday, July 19, 1924. The program, 10 pages, 8.75 x 10.75, contains schedules for men’s 100-meter freestyle, women’s 100-meter freestyle, men’s high dive, women’s high dive, and women’s 100-meter backstroke. The program also contains a water polo bracket declaring France as the winner, and promoting a second-place match between the United States and Belgium. In fine condition, with a chipped right corner tip to the front cover, and light wear and toning to the spine. At the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris, eleven swimming events were contested, six for men and five for women. The United States team, coached by Bill Bachrach, won 19 of the 33 medals, and 9 of the 11 gold medals. Most notably, Tarzan actor Johnny Weissmuller won three gold medals, surfing pioneer Duke Kahanamoku won a silver, and the great Warren Kealoha won a gold.
