German-American maker of optical instruments (1830-1926) who co-founded Bausch & Lomb. Unusual ink signature, "J. J. Bausch, Aug. 20, 24,” on an off-white 3.5 x 5.5 souvenir card with attached miniature magnifying glass, imprinted: "In going over some articles that I have jealously kept these many many years, I found a limited number of tiny magnifiers that I personally constructed shortly after the Civil War period. Feeling that you would be sure to appreciate the keep-sake of the pioneer days of the optical business in America, I take great pleasure in attaching one of these magnifiers to this card and presenting it to you with my best personal wishes." In fine condition. Accompanied by a modern shadowbox for display.
